Full Version: Gah! Does Anyone Else Have Probs Playing Ep 21?

Is it just me or is anyone else having problems with episode 21? When I play it, it keeps freezing, goes all pixely, and then jumps way ahead of where it's supposed to be at. I've got the Nimo codec pack and ffdshow installed. I even got that gspot thing that tells you if you have the codec to play it, and it says that I do. I tried to play it thru VirtualDub, but a few seconds in I get an error that says "Error decompressing video frame 540" That frame 540 is where it freezes and then skips ahead in Windows Media Player. If anyone could help me out that would be great, thx.

Oh yeah, this happened to me only once before with AJ's GetBackers 37, but I couldn't figure it out then either. Other than that all other anime I have runs fine.

blink.gif Well I have similar problem with eps 12-16 not that bat though - it's just annoing pixelization through the screen grrrrrrrrrrrr sad.gif You can watch them but you loose some action unsure.gif

I got a decoder error a couple seconds into the episode, but, I'm using mplayer--so, it just "blacks out" (all the while playing the sound) until the next error-free frame, then the picture comes back, and it's fine from that point on.
Mellow Yellow
Well, at least GetBackers ep 37 was watchable sorta, but Last Exile ep 21 skips too much and you miss out on alot since it jumps every 4 seconds (I haven't watched it all tho sad.gif ) Man this sucks.

Guys,

I've had -zero- errors playing any of the files. Including 21.

It's your codecs you have installed... perhaps you've done something silly, like installed a codec pack (which installs several). They are awful and can cause conflicts with each other.

On a clean install of your OS, all you need to watch the LE episodes is the XviD codec. (I just did this the other day).

(updated) Try Nic's 30th March release. You can always uninstall if it doesn't work. I use WinME, Win2000 and WinXP and there's no issues using this build.

Yes in cases of video problems its always 90% a codec thing
Just download the latest XVID and it'll run smooth (even if u think u have the latest just download again to make sure)
We dont release something with major errors and glitches so i can tell u its not our side wink.gif

Also i've heard that ffdshow may or may not cause problems, if u have it installed try turning it off. If u dont have it installed try installing it biggrin.gif
(weird how ffdshow works wink.gif)

Well good luck and enjoy

Your player is covering for the error. Because there is an error (two actually), even using the xvid codec. Here's a snippet from mplayer running at verbose level 3, using the codec you said to use (which is the one mplayer uses by default):

CODE

Starting playback...
*** [vo] Exporting mp_image_t, 640x360x12bpp YUV planar, 345600 bytes
XXX initial  v_pts=0.000  a_pos=8000 (0.500) /  1   0%  0%  0.0% 0 0 8%
decoding error
decoding error0.0 A-V:  0.022 ct:  0.002    2/  2   0%  0%  0.0% 0 0 8%

Here's the same thing using ffodivx (a.k.a ffdshow in the Windows world):

CODE

XXX initial  v_pts=0.000  a_pos=8000 (0.500) /  1   0%  0%  0.0% 0 0 2%
header damaged
Error while decoding frame!
header damaged0.0 A-V:  0.022 ct:  0.002    2/  2   0%  0%  0.0% 0 0 2%
Error while decoding frame!

I noticed that when I ran the sub in mplayer with the X frames and the GUI enabled, I got a decode error (a pop-up error window--which, I'm guessing caused the GUI/frames to "black out" what mplayer was rendering). But when I ran it in mplayer without the GUI and X frames (fullscreen) mplayer managed to cover for the decode error--if I didn't have debugging on I wouldn't have even known there was a problem--using both of the codecs above.

Those 2 decoding errors were the only ones I got throughout the entire episode. Although, since they are at the beginning of the file, it's possible that for some odd reason it's effecting the caching buffer that player is using--causing the freezing and jumping.

I think there may have been some small corruptions in somebody's file that somehow got past CRC checking (I'm not too up on bittorrent's internal workings so I don't know how it happened) but I had 2 or three spots where playback .. 'hicupped' a little. It seemed like it'd hit a spot, and would have to wait for the next key frame before it started up again.

Could be a codec issue. A note about XviD - It is in current development and will generate new stable releases about every other month. It is entirely recommended to install individual codecs and not use codec packages and update XviD frequently.

(Course, being on OSX I have to wait for a new version of VLC before I can test the codec issue on 21, but all the rest play perfectly)

Oh yeah, just a little note of appreciation to Af and Inf for the eps. I actually named my new server after Sylf cause he's just too awesome. laugh.gif

It sounds like either a codec problem or corruption of the file. I've never had any problems playing Last Exile eps, ep. 21 included. Bittorrent could be the problem as while.

More times than one, I've thought that I downloaded a full file but hadn't. If you look at the fill bar, it's completely full but the file still isn't fully downloaded if you don't see that Download Successful flash up.

The best thing to do to make sure you have the whole file is to stop the download then start it up again. Takes less than a minute. Bittorrent will check the file upon start up and the Download Successful will flash up if it's complete. If not, it'll reset the fill bar to the correct position and continue the download.

I don't know about you guys but I dawnloaded 3 files for 2 times (ep 13,14,16) and they all had a pixelization problem - and I'm damn sure it wasnt codec problem !!! grrrrrrrr
Mellow Yellow
Whew finally got it working. Thanks Shipon, it looked like you were right about starting the d/l again, cuz I only had ep 21 at 83% complete! The video was still a bit messed when I first played it, but I just removed ffdshow and it was all good. Thanks everyone! biggrin.gif

To PoisonIvy:
I just went thru my eps 13,14,15 and they work fine. Do you have ffdshow installed? Cuz I found that the TW Naruto eps I had were all messed up, but after installing ffdshow it worked fine. Like Xepheus said, ffdshow may or may not cause problems smile.gif
