hehe alright xepheus-sama is here to save you

its nice to see people using this forum for the right purpose

BUT first just a general note for everyone:
we decided to change the resolution of avatars down to 65x65 instead of the 80x80 or unlimited

so older people have to change/redo their avatars cuz they look weird

and here we go lu-chan

under my controls:edit avatar settings
first thing u gotta do is select the circle thingy options Pre-installed avatars or Your image avatars (u select the 2nd one)
now in the box after:
"Your avatar
The following file types are allowed:
.gif .jpeg .jpg .swf .png"
u type in ur avatar link from another html somewhere (sorry we cant support uploading of avatars cuz then it'd make our database huge

)
for example mine is:
http://www.anime-4ever.net/image/xephy-80x80.gifhence i put that in the box
then click add this avatar to my profiles button and everything should work fine =)
Hope that helped... if it didn't PM me

just a comment-- the avatars on the forum act a little weird-- often times mine appears broken to me, then i go to the link to check it out and once it's in the cache then it shows up. bizarro. hard to know whether something's broken for real or not, but that could just be b/c i use mozilla or something. eh, who knows.

Hey Xepheus you or whoever did the control panel forgot to change the Pixel size boxes so they automatically come up 65X65 instead of 72X72. Just thought you'd wanna know

I'm guessing it's not possible to have your avatar hosted on geocities? I get a big X on my av, even though if I put the same image link in an IE window's address bar, I see the image just fine...

geocities wont host any pictures and such on their sites.... unless you are using it on you own webpage.

try typing "free web space" into google. you'll get a whole lot of options. personally i use 0catch.com. annoying popups with every web page! however, it is free and you get what you pay for....

would it be possible to take .txt files as avatars?
I use a jpeg renamed as a .txt file as my avatar on several forums. It seldom gives me problems even when I use geocities.

Ok, so I went to a lot of trouble (learning my way around computers beyond point and click) to set up a free web account and put up pictures. However, my avatar still shows up with no picture. I believe this is because i'm "hotlinking" which is not allowed for my free account.
Can anyone more computer literate than me help me out? Do I just have to pay for the service or what? Are there other web hosting places that people can recommend where I wouldn't have to pay?

You probably have to rename it to a .txt file like what Sadisfreak said or get a new host. Do you got AIM? Then you can use this to host it. I find it reliable most of the time.

Laura517, Iownjoo.com works well and it's fairly hassle-free aside from their warnings about deleting your account if it's not used often. (Just upload and delete a pic every now and then...
::shrug::) Or if you don't want to bother with even that, I'm currently using Angelfire for my avatar and sig, and surprisingly, they seem to be allowing hotlinking even though I'm using a free account. So... whatever works, I say.

The thing with iownjoo.com is that I can't go to file manager to delete stuff
I have all my sn and pw correct. I know its case sensitive, but it just won't let me. I even e-mailed them to help me and it still doesn't work, so I gave up. It seems to be a comon problem if you go on their forum and read.

Your avatar must be no bigger than 64 pixels by 64 pixels in size. Uploaded avatars from your computer must be no larger than 0 KB.
Errrr... that's from the avatar page... and what's the deal with no larger than 0 KB? Does that mean all avatars have to be on a site somewhere?

Oh well, I can keep my green haze, it works for me.

Yes, you must host your own avatar.
If you have an ISP (Internet Service Provider), then you have webspace with them, in which you can host images. If not, then try to find a good image hosting site.
Some are listed all around the forum.

Ah, thanks Tux.
I know we have webspace with our provider... a matter of getting it all set up and stuff... yes...
Anyhow, thank you.
