Full Version: Viewing Problems? Read This!
#Animeforever > General Discussion > ARGH!! I Don't Get It!!!

Well i did this post initially as a response to a yasha problem in the yasha forum but decided to change some words and generalize it for all projects and encodes... enjoy and hope it helps.

For the solution to all viewing problems...

I've noticed there are always a couple questions that come up when ppl cant get their file to work... and their solutions are always the same;

1. "Video is Choppy"
I've had this problem before i upgraded my computer (i had a p2:300) and i know how it feels and how weird it is... but UNLESS I myself have encoded it extremely badly with a craptacular source and set it to a low framerate then this problem wont happen at all... as I'd like to think that I DO know what im doing (and the other encoders of their respective projects).
So why are u geting such choppiness? Well one reason would be ur codec it needs updating! Latest DivX codec 5.05 can be found at http//www.divx.com/divx
and latest XviD codec can be found at http://www.divx-digest.com/software/xvid.html
Another problem would be... well...ur computer is getting old!
Old computers do have problems with new codecs as i've seen and heard and it causes the choppiness u see cuz the cpu cant handle decoding the video as fast as it plays... hence u get a slowdown... or choppiness... ( hmm wonder if that is really a word! ) To fix it? Well i've known myself of a couple "temporary" solutions. One is to use the divx player to watch ur video rather than wmp or anything else cuz the divx player is SIMPLE and requires much less resources than ur average wmp. Second, im sure it helps a bit but get some more ram... if that is possible, ur p2:300 or whatever runs on 133 ram which should be like 5$ for like 10 million mb of ram ;
Lastly, although its sad to see an old friend go... you gotta upgrade or buy a new computer! Its time to keep with the times people... now-a-days i think computers arent TOO pricey as they originally are... from what i've seen the core of a newer computer can cost as low as 200-300$ CDN the rest u can pull out of ur old computer
But upgrading ur computer will almost guarantee that u'll have no more choppiness and hence everyone becomes happy
Plus as new codecs start coming out... your old computer will have an even less chance of running them properly... so u gotta do it eventually ^^

2. "So i got a good computer but the file doesnt play"
Although we and many others have stated it time and time again, we even put up links and wrote it in HUGE letters, Inuyasha 107 and above requires DivX 5.05. Also we've noted many times that Last EXILE also requires the latest XviD.
Its amazing how many people go "oh but i have the newest divx/xvid" then we say "go download it again from here..." then its like "OH it works thanks!" ( which implies they didnt have the latest codec ; )

3. Good now that we solved half the problems... the next one... "i have it (truly)instaled divx5.05 and it still doesnt work..."
Now the thing with transfers of files through the internet is that sometimes files get corrupted either from weird disconnects or from problems with ur computer or something along those lines...
Although im not sure if everyone noticed but those numbers in brackets in the file name... THOSE numbers CAN tell you whether ur file is corrupted or not. Its a very useful thing its called CRC numbers (cycle-redundancy-check) or somethin like that...
"How do u check those numbers?"
Well there many many programs out there that are made just to check files for corruption (and most of them a freeware)... i personally use "easy SFV" but anything else can be used... try searching for SFV or CRC stuff in google or downloads.com... as well if u use irc there are even scripts that give u the CRC of the file...
Now that u got that... u use ur prog and get a CRC value.. now u compare those set of numbers/letters to ones in brackets in the filename... if they are EXACTLY the same.. ur file is perfectly fine... else if even 1 character is different then its corrupted or incomplete or another...
two ways to fix this... either hop onto bittorrent again to see if it can be fixed/filled in.. else sorry to tell u but u gotta grab it again...

4. "I gots Divx5.05 + CRC values match and it still dont work"
Honestly i dont think we've ever had this problem brought up... but if it does well i dont know what else to tell u... except maybe theres something weird/wrong thats going on in ur computer. We cant help u with the problem as there could be many many many reasons for ur computer to be messed up =o

Well thats all for my huge blurb of help... hmm i dunno why but whenever i talk about this stuff i tend to write essays... sorry about that but hope this solves everyone's problems and hmmm maybe i'll put this up on our FAQ page...

There is solution to most people. When you have too much codec and directshow filter installed, they tend to override xvid and divx codec. that means you uninstall all the codec, only install divx and xvid and it should play most anime.

Yes, my Last Exile XVid problems solved by unistalling the mountain of differnent codec packs I had tried installing and just going with the most basic non pro 5.05 bundle from Divx.com and this for playing xvids -> http://www.doom9.org/Soft21/Filters/ffdsho...ow-20021213.exe

Edit: Above url not working so get the ffdshow .exe from here.

After playing with the settings and options in the various Xvid/DivX codecs [all current as of this post] and still having problems with blurred/blocky results of any motion between keyframes, I uninstalled ffdshow and it worked.... for some encodes. Reinstalling the release version of the ffdshow filter sent me back to my original problem, allowing me to viw all encodes, but having blurred/choppy images when certain codecs were used.

After this I changed to the ffdshow alpha [released in May 2003, available on the soundforge website here: http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.p...?group_id=53761 or direct link: http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/ffdshow...23.exe?download ], this version seems to be able to handle Xvid and DivX perfectly w/o having to re/uninstall various codecs.

Just wanted to help others past the same problems I was having.

It would be helpful if anyone could provide some good xvid on OSX tips as I've had nothing but hell for the last two days trying to get a player to completely handle the Last Exile encodes (best I got was MPlayer for OSX which has massive color bleedthrough).

**UPDATE**
How to get Last Exile (and many other current encodes) to play on Mac OSX (OS X / Jaguar 10.2.x)

Get the latest version of Video Lan Client. Available at:

http://www.videolan.org or
http://www.fr.videolan.org

The main site is down right now, which was why I had to try every single other possibility until I found the mirror. On my Powerbook G4 using OSX 10.2.6, VLC plays Last Exile 17 PERFECTLY

... well, i was wondering if someone could help me out, i have downloaded everything that was needed to play inuyasha (Xvid, divx & easy SFV), however in every program it says something, i found nothing to be corrupt in checking.
Windows media: it doesn’t recognize the extensions would you like to try to continue ... then can play file maybe corrupt or player doesn’t support format.
DivX player : Failed to open, check that it is valid avi or mpeg4
Realplayer: invalid metafile
.. i dunno what else to do, i would rather get inuyasha from this site then kazaa it takes forever

... well, i was wondering if someone could help me out, i have downloaded everything

I didn't want to copy this entire last post......

Usually when I see problems like that the file is usually corrupt. Generally from download. I would need to know specifically where you are getting these files from whether it be from Kazaa or some similar program, or are you downloading them from this site. If you got the files from Kazaa there's not much you can do but to download them again. If you are downloading them from this site What I think happened is when you download a bit torrent file it creates a file on your computer that is the same size and name as the one you are trying to download. But the file that is created on your hardrive is blank all it is, is reserved space for the actually data to be written to. You have to leave bit torrent running until it says download succeeded, and then leave the window open as long as you can to help other people get the file faster as a way of saying thank you to those who helped you get the file.

To be getting an error like these in WMP or DivX player (though I use BSPlayer) means the header info is missing, something the .avi file uses to announce all it's codec requirements to the player. Realplayer simply doesn't support .avi files. (or at least it never used to, I dunno, maybe it does now)

With this in mind, for ALL files to be doing this, I would have to say that JazzeroKi's guess is right, and you didn't leave your BT windows open to finish the download.

The original BT client automatically allocates the files space for that file, so if you look at it in explorer, it looks done when in fact it isn't, there's no actual file information there. This is why most people use one of the experimental interfaces available, because they don't auto-allocate.

Look for a program called Gspot and use that to check your .avi files, that will test the file to see if it can be successfully rendered and what codecs are used.

Actually, I think the only way to "pause" a download is to stop the application. When you start to re download it, it will resume at the last part is downloaded.

Hope that helps a little.

About your DL speed going to 0:

That could either be that no Seeders are up or no full Distributed Copies among the users that are DLing it at the same time as you. BT does not download in a linear fashion, but rather in segments (rarest first: pieces of the file that only a few of the peers have), so some ppl may have the end of the file while others have the beginning. If the ppl DLing (peers) have all the segments of a complete file, its called a Distributed Copy and is able to complete even if no seeds are up.

It could also be that you maxed your bandwidth and locked up your LAN card or Modem (if internal). Easiest fix for that is to reboot the PC and start it up again. (if anyone knows of an easier fix then that, let me know wink.gif)

Okay, here`s my problem...I`m running Windows XP on a Japanese computer (so I can`t read a good deal of the error messages. =/). On my username, I downloaded bitorrent and that worked fine, but whenever I try to download/open an actual episode, the first time Norton Internet Security popped up, I tried to click some random things, it didn`t go away. Now when I try it says "connection denied."

I went on my sister`s username, since the Internet Security on this comp is fickle, downloaded bittorrent again and DivX(sp?). When I try to download the files for FMA 11, it says, "no such file exists". I *know* there`s not a file there yet, since bittorrent needs to filter/download it to my comp...*confused*.

Any suggestions? I get to watch the series in Japanese every week anyway, but there`s a lot I miss because they speak fast and my Japanese isn`t that good yet to catch everything. So I wanna watch the subbed episodes. =/

I am having a problem with the video for Chrno Crusade 16 onward... 15, everything works ok, but suddenly with 16, it seems like the encoding was changed. Now all of a sudden every new frame, if something moves the video becomes pixelated and blurred until the scene switches again. I have the latest XviD and DivX codecs, as well as ffdshow installed, but I think it might be that I don't have an older version...

Can someone help me?

Im having problems viewing tweeny witches, i have the lastest code 5.1.1 , i dont have the earlier one , ive tried two different players they both open the file, then the screen freezes and closes. says encounter an error, I can play all my other files fine, is there an issue with the lastest code and your new releases?
CMOS
roxy 5.1.1 is divx, you need XVID fallow that link and get the latest binary.

I'm having the same problem as Enkidu. I made sure to download the latest versions of Divx and Xvid, but Chrno Crusade 16 and on won't play. And according to the SFV checker, everything's okay...

I wonder why you have to encode using GMC? I have not seen all your releases but some Samurai Champloo are (I know 6 and 7 are for a fact).
Thing is for us using standalone divx/xvid players have a problem with GMC and QPEL (not everyone but most of us I think).
Do you have a reason for this? If not: Can you please consider to stop? :>
CMOS
GMC or Global Motion Compensation helps camera pans and scenes with a lot of movement in one direction look smooth and natural. I have experimented with not using this feature however I find the results to be unacceptable.
