This is a interesting read : Order Of Magdala
Ledgem
Interesting; I'd call it a cult but unfortunately it seems too tame to even be called that.

Bah, no nuns with guns there ;_;

Curious, very curious.
I agree on it not being really a cult. More of a subsect of Christianity seems like.
Still, cool explanation on the Hebrew meaning of the name Magdala.

Still, no nuns with guns..... :ph34r:
Oh, well.

That's an interesting link. I'm almost tempted to sign up for the 'Mystery School' to get my hands on some of the literature. Be great material for a story. I can't help but think of Matantei Ragnarok Loki, though. "Fushigi Mystery!"

Hehe, that's not exactly it tho... im guessing it's a slight translation problem, they mean the 'Order of Magalene'--a semi-mythic french order militant that was supposedly the custodians of the Holy Grail. The twist is that it's the Magdalene Grail, which is not some chalice but the VESSEL of Christ's Blood--IE: his children.

They venerated Mary Magdalene, the prostitute that Jesus befriended and loved who they believed travelled to Nice, France while pregnant with the child of Christ after he was crucified. The order was supposed to keep the bloodline of Christ alive and protect them at all costs (defending the 'Grail').

After the cathars (most french orders were cathartic for some reason) were declared heretic the order went underground, where the legend is either they re-emerged as the templars, the knights of the holy sepulchre or the freemasons. Charlemagne (and thus most european royalty) was supposed to be a 'guardian of the grail', claiming descendancy from Christ himself.

blink.gif Okay...that was very intresting, but at the same time, estremely wierd, but whatever it is i like the story line, regardless, of where the back ground comes from, Plus the idea of nuns with guns, is very good.
I wonder if the author is catholic? or believes in the thing they used to make up the story, or maybe over heard it...... :ph34r:
well that's some deep thinking rolleyes.gif , but whatever it may be, i'm kinda skeptical about the background info, but regardless, it's still a good story! biggrin.gif

Not necessarily. Some appocryphal texts refer to her as Mary of Magdala - supposedly the fishing village she came from. The truth about her has been so obfuscated over the years it will probably never be known.
