So I finished watching Kanon yesterday, and I must say, this was the first time I'm been surprised in a VERY long time.
First of all, I never expected the series to take a turn to stuff like that which happend with Mai. They had at least a good solid 4 or 5 serious down to earth episodes before then.
Then the show started to get pretty sad. I had to put up with 3 characters dying or almost dying or already being dead or whatever -- it was very stressful. By episode 12 I was convinced it was the worst series ever (I like happy endings thank you very much) and that was even before Nayuki's mother got hit by a car ("yes, this will be a good way to make everyone even more depressed," I'll bet the producer's were thinking).
But wow, what a curve they threw. I just checked out the beginning of the first episode (I needed to see how to spell Nayuki's name), and Ayu is there, in a hospital bed. You don't see her face, but being as that was the first ep I didn't even think about that stuff at the beginning.
Anyways, it was a nice ending and I liked it. I wasn't suspecting a thing -- I mean how often is the message that the dead can't come back fed to us? I get it now though, it was a dream. Oh well, that's all I have to say on the topic.
