Figured I would fill in a few confused fans on what that was all about (might get a bit too technical)
This system is commonly used on Rally cars and not street legal, but still sold for street racers under name of "Turbo Anti-Lag System" or something close to that.
Basic problem of Turbo cars is Lag (Time spent by engine increasing in RPM's, which creates more exhaust which in turn used to spin up turbine that creates boost pressure). When you shift or take your foot of the gas pedal, engine has to start from low RP's which slows down Turbine effectively lowering boost pressure, so you loose your turbo generated HP's till engine reaches around 3000-4000 RPM's and turbine spins up again.
Well "Anti Lag" or "Miss Firing" System allows you to keep high boost pressure even when your Engine is low on RPM's. It senses drop of turbine’s rotation speed and injects fuel directly into the exhaust system itself. The fuel is detonated in the exhaust manifold, creating loud pop along with flash and that small explosion is used to maintain rotation of turbine that generates boost pressure in your engine (so Turbo is always ON similar to Super Charger).
Side effect is that if you are caught with one on the street, then you will get into a HUGE problems since you are technically driving a “not street legal” car. Also after few hundred miles of using this system, you will have to rebuild your whole turbo and exhaust manifold with possibility of early engine replacement. Some hard core racers just have a switch that they flip ON to activate this system when they race and turn it OFF after race.
Anyway, hope now you see the whole splash over Sudo since he is technically racing against Takumi in almost complete Rally Race car. It’s ok, Takumi soon will show what Sprinter with race engine can do.
P.S. I predict one or two replies at most, probably due to people falling a sleep reading it, hope I am wrong.
